Sumitranandan Pant
सुमित्रानंदन पंत

Sumitranandan Pant (May 20, 1900- December 28, 1977) was born in Kausani village of Almora District (Uttarakhand). He is considered one of the major poets of Chhayavaad in Hindi literature. He also wrote progressive, philosophical, socialist and humanist poems. He wrote twenty-eight published works including poetry, verse plays and essays. He received the Jnanpith Award, in 1968 for Chidambara, Nehru Peace Prize by the Soviet Union for Lokayatan, "Sahitya Kala Academy" award for "Kala Aur Burha Chand". He was also honored with Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. His poetical works are Uchchhavaas, Pallav, Veena, Granthi, Gunjan, Gramya, Yugaant, Yugaantar, Swarna Kiran, Swarnadhuli, Kala Aur Burha Chand, Lokyatan, Satyakam, Mukti Yajna, Tarapath (collection), Mansi, Yugvani, Uttra, Rajatshikhar, Shilpi, Sauvarna, Atima, Yugpath (Yugaant,Yugaantar), Patjhar, Avgunthit, Jyotsana, Meghnad Vadh, Khadi Ke Phool (co-author Harivansh Rai Bachchan), Madhujwal (Traslation of Rubaiyat of Ummar Khayyam from Persian).
