Sumitranandan Pant / सुमित्रानंदन पंत

Sumitranandan Pant (May 20, 1900 – December 28, 1977) was born in Kausani village of Almora District (Uttarakhand). He is considered one of the major pillars and pioneers of Chhayavaad in Hindi literature. Over his illustrious literary career, he also authored progressive, philosophical, socialist, and humanist poems.

Pant published twenty-eight works including poetry collections, verse plays, and essays. He was honored with the prestigious Jnanpith Award (1968) for Chidambara, the Soviet Land Nehru Peace Prize for Lokayatan, and the Sahitya Akademi Award for Kala Aur Burha Chand. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India.
