Suryakant Tripathi Nirala (21 February 1896–15 October 1961) was born in a Brahmin family of Midnapore in Bengal (originally from Gadhakola, Unnao,Uttar Pradesh). He was one of the most famous figures of the modern Hindi literature. He was a poet, novelist, essayist and story-writer. He also drew many sketches. Nirala was a major poet of the Chhayavaad movement along with Jaishankar Prasad, Sumitranandan Pant and Mahadevi Verma. His poetical works are: Anaamika, Ram Ki Shakti Puja, Dhwani, Saroj Smriti, Parimal, Geetika, Kukurmutta, Anima, Bela, Naye Patte, Archana, Geet Gunj, Aradhana, Tulsidas, Janmabhumi and Jago Phir Ek Bar. Many collections of his famous poems such as Raag Viraag, Apra, Sandhya Kakali have also been published.
